Blocked drains, jetting and drain repairs

A blocked or damaged drain can back up into the house within hours. We clear blockages, clean and jet drains with high-pressure water, and repair broken or misaligned pipework.

Drains: common questions

More answers

Who is responsible for a blocked drain in London?

Generally, you're responsible for drains that serve only your property and sit within its boundary. Pipes shared with neighbours, or that run outside your boundary, are usually the water company's responsibility, which is Thames Water across most of London. We can tell you which applies once we've looked.

How do I know if my drain is damaged?

Repeat blockages soon after clearing, a constant sewage smell, damp patches, sinking paving or rodents near a drain run all suggest damage. A CCTV drain survey confirms it by showing cracks, displaced joints, root intrusion or collapse, with the exact location so the repair can be targeted.

Is drain jetting safe for old pipes?

Yes, when it's done properly. The pressure and nozzle are matched to the pipe's size and condition. If a CCTV survey shows a pipe is already cracked or fragile, we adjust the approach or recommend a repair first, so jetting doesn't make existing damage worse.

Why do my drains smell?

Drain smells usually come from food, grease and soap rotting in the pipe, a dried-out trap letting sewer gas through, or a partial blockage. Run water through rarely used fittings to refill their traps. If the smell persists, the drain needs cleaning or there may be a defect.
