24/7 emergency service

Burst pipe repair in London

Emergency repairs for burst and leaking pipes, day or night.

The short answer

If a pipe bursts, turn off the water at the stopcock straight away, usually under the kitchen sink or where the supply enters the house. Switch off electrics near the water if safe, open cold taps to drain the system and catch what you can. Then call a 24-hour plumber to repair the pipe.

A burst pipe can do serious damage in minutes. When you call, we talk you through isolating the water while we're on our way, then locate and repair the burst quickly.

We also look at why it failed, whether that's frost, corrosion, an old joint or high water pressure, and use quality materials so the repair lasts.

FAQs

Burst pipe repair questions, answered

What should I do first if a pipe bursts?

Turn off the water at the stopcock immediately. It's usually under the kitchen sink, in a downstairs cupboard or where the supply enters the house. Switch off electrics near the water if it's safe, open cold taps to drain the pipes, move valuables, then call a 24-hour plumber.

Where is my stopcock?

Most stopcocks are under the kitchen sink. Otherwise, look in a downstairs toilet, airing cupboard, under the stairs, in a garage, or near the front door under floorboards. Flats sometimes have one in the communal area. It's worth finding and testing it before an emergency.

How do I stop pipes freezing in winter?

Lag pipes in lofts, garages and outside walls, keep the heating on low when you're away, and leave loft hatches open in very cold spells so warm air reaches the pipes. Fix dripping taps and insulate outside taps. If a pipe freezes, thaw it gently and never use a naked flame.

Eljo from Urgent Plumbers London Ltd is one of, if not the most responsive tradesman I've come across - replied to queries and messages quickly without fuss, and clearly explained issues/reasoning with any work required. Always arrived when he said he would too and was happy to provide all relevant documentation (Gas Safe etc) when asked - would recommend. Quoted for boiler service/replaced our boiler when it was found to be un-serviceable.

Urgent Plumbers were fantastic when my boiler leaked. It was at the worst time possible -early on a Sunday morning when I was rushing out to work. He was so calm , turned up quickly as promised and then was so efficient at working out and fixing the problem. He was also so kind as I was terrified how much it would all cost for a Sunday emergency call out Thank you so much - you're an absolute hero
