What should I do if my basement floods?
Stay out of the water if there's any chance it's reached sockets or appliances, and turn off the electricity at the consumer unit if you can do so safely. If a pipe has burst, turn off the stopcock. Photograph the damage for your insurer, then call us.
Why does my basement flood when it rains?
Common causes are blocked or overwhelmed drains backing up, gutters and downpipes discharging too close to the wall, and groundwater pushing through the floor or walls. We find the actual cause, clear or repair the drains, and advise on longer-term protection.
How long does it take to dry a flooded basement?
It depends on how deep the water was, what the walls and floor are made of and how quickly the water was removed. Removing standing water fast is what matters most, because mould can start within a day or two. We'll give you a realistic timescale once we've seen it.
