Blocked toilets, sinks, pipes & drains in London

Toilets, sinks, baths and pipes unblocked, day or night.

The short answer

Most blocked toilets and sinks are caused by wipes, hair, grease or foreign objects. Plunging may clear a simple blockage, but if water keeps rising, several fittings drain slowly, or you hear gurgling, the blockage is further down the pipe and needs professional rodding, jetting or a CCTV survey.

Blockages are among the most common plumbing problems and among the most unpleasant. We clear them quickly with the right equipment, from hand tools to drain rods and high-pressure jetting.

If something keeps blocking, we use a CCTV camera to see inside the pipe and find out why, whether that's a build-up of grease, a collapsed section or a badly laid joint.

FAQs

Blocked toilets, sinks, pipes & drains questions, answered

How do I unblock a toilet without a plunger?

Pour a bucket of hot (not boiling) water into the pan from waist height, wait a few minutes and repeat. Washing-up liquid can help with grease. Don't use caustic chemicals, which can damage pipes and harm whoever clears the blockage next. If the water keeps rising, stop flushing and call us.

Why do several of my sinks and toilets block at once?

When more than one fitting blocks or gurgles at the same time, the problem is usually in the shared waste pipe or the main drain, not the fittings themselves. This needs drain rods, jetting or a CCTV survey. Avoid using water until it's cleared to prevent overflow.

Are chemical drain unblockers safe?

We don't recommend them. Strong caustic or acid unblockers can damage plastic pipes, seals and older metal pipework, and rarely shift solid blockages like wipes. They also make the job dangerous for whoever clears the drain afterwards. Mechanical clearing or jetting is safer and more effective.

Eljo from Urgent Plumbers London Ltd is one of, if not the most responsive tradesman I've come across - replied to queries and messages quickly without fuss, and clearly explained issues/reasoning with any work required. Always arrived when he said he would too and was happy to provide all relevant documentation (Gas Safe etc) when asked - would recommend. Quoted for boiler service/replaced our boiler when it was found to be un-serviceable.

Urgent Plumbers were fantastic when my boiler leaked. It was at the worst time possible -early on a Sunday morning when I was rushing out to work. He was so calm , turned up quickly as promised and then was so efficient at working out and fixing the problem. He was also so kind as I was terrified how much it would all cost for a Sunday emergency call out Thank you so much - you're an absolute hero
